Font change is seen by eye but not reflected on Home tag
I mostly write my documents in Arial Font size 10.
Now I have a long document in which a short section clearly is written in some other font. When I highlight this section the Home tab along the top indicates that it is written in Arial 10. The offending section looks to me as though it might be in Courier. I cannot find a way of fiddling the section so that it looks like Arial 10 I have tried to paste in an illustrative section but the forum mchanisms reduce everything to one font. Sorry ! |

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

To say that you have a mess is an understatement.
I used Shift+F1 to look at your formatting. Word's Reveal Formatting Codes This is what I found: The first paragraph has a bit of direct formatting applied. 00 deleteme 1.png The second has a mishmash of direct formatting, character style formatting and others. So much so that it took two screen shots to display it all. 00 deleteme 2.png Understanding Styles in Microsoft Word You can get the second one to look like the first one by selecting it and pressing Ctrl+Q and then Ctrl+Spacebar. Then use the Format Painter (Home tab) to copy the formatting from the first paragraph to the second. You will need to select the entire second paragraph when doing this. Seriously, learn to use styles for your formatting. You will be saving yourself untold frustration. |

OK Thank you. I have never heard of any of this, but I'll take your advice and teach myself how to do it.

The key idea is to get your text looking the way you want, then create a new style that looks that way. When you want more text to look that way, apply your style.

Learning about styles
OK. Have been working through this and I have some idea how to go on. Got to work at it a bit more.
One thing I am not sure about : I have several articles all of the order of 15,000 words long, all probably with defective formatting along the lines you suggested. They all have to be in pukka order before they go out. Is there an obvious way to "highlight" the whole document so that I can apply my new style to it ? It seems a bit daunting to physically highlight such long scripts. I have been looking at your macro. Is this the way to go ? |
