Default Customized Quick Tables not accesible with a locked document

I have created two customized Quick Tables for a client. If the document is unlocked with no editing restrictions, the Quick Tables are accessible and work as designed. Once I lock the document (Restrict Editing), the entire Quick Tables option is grayed out and I cannot insert one of my fancy new customized tables.

Are Quick Tables simply incompatible with a locked document?

Thank you,
-Scott-

Depending of the kind of editing restriction you applied, you may not be able to edit anything.

Hint:

Tell us what kind of editing restriction you are applying and why you are using that. "Locked" is too vague.

If you use "No Changes" and mark areas as exceptions, you can use quick tables and do other editing in those "exception" areas.

I'm not trying to edit (at least what I'd call editing; MS Word and I might have different definitions of the word!). I'm just trying to insert a Quick Table I've created.

That in itself is an edit - you're changing the document's content.

First the why: To keep the client from mucking about with modifying styles, etc.

The what: The editing restriction is limited to "Filling in forms." It's an odd term MSWord uses, since the user can type to his heart's content. Of the three sections in the document, only the first section is locked, which seems to cover only the header/footer.

It's odd, though, that I can insert a Table, a Picture, and a Chart into the document – but not a Quick Table. Hmmm, apparently I also cannot insert a Shape or SmartArt.

In that case, you should be using the 'No changes (read only)' restrictions, with the 'limit formatting to a selection of Styles' option checked and editable areas marked as exceptions.

The only place a user can type in a Section to which 'filling in forms' editing restrictions has been applied is within formfields or content controls. Obviously, if you have an unprotected Section, almost anything goes there - including Style changes.
