![]() I have an end user on Win10 and using Word 2016 that when he goes into a protected document with unprotected fields and tabs through the fields...he can type into the field but when he presses the backspace key he can backspace one character and then it will not backspace anymore than that. He can use the mouse and click on the field which will remove the highlight and place a curser where ever he clicks and then delete and backspace but this takes time. When I forward the document to somebody else using Windows 10 and also running Word 2016 it works fine. It only appears to be happening to him. I checked the "Ease of Access" settings and they appear to set to the same as the other end user. It used to work for this individual but now for some reason it does not. I know that deleting his profile in Windows will probably fix the issue, but then I would have to set all of his programs and printers again. |

Have the user try repairing the Office installation (via Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair).
If that doesn't work, then without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

Here is one of the documents, but it only seems to do it for him when he edits one of the fillable fields on this protected document and only one he tabs through the fields. He can backspace one time and then it just freezes. I did run a repair and rebooted the pc after the repair and it did the same thing.

Your attachment has IRM protection and I cannot open it without the required credentials.

Removed restrictions. It is still protected but there is no password required to unprotect document.

There doesn't appear to be anything about your form that could account for the reported behaviour. Does the same behaviour occur if the affected user runs Word in safe mode (i.e. hold down the shift key while starting Word)?

Was there ever a resolve for this? I have a client that is having this exact same issue with a protected form I created a few years ago. Never any issues until last week.

Did your client try the steps suggested here? You may want to start your own thread.

We have tried the steps listed here with no correction of the issue. The document works fine on the other 2 machines in the office but acts crazy on this one machine.

And in safe mode?

Yes. I have tried safe mode and no change.

In that case, the affected PC may have a faulty Office installation. Try repairing it (e.g. via Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair).

This was the first course of action. We did a quick repair and when that didn’t work I did an online repair. This still did not resolve it. Not sure what else to do.
