Bold only Caption title and number but not text.

Hi Forum,
I know this is almost identical to a thread posted in 2010, but of course Word has had a few changes and updates since then (https://www.msofficeforums.com/word/...yle-label.html)

I can't for the life of me workout how to, when I add a new caption, make only the caption title and number e.g. Table 1 and the text following after not bold.

Optional Extra: I would also like to, if possible, make just the caption text in italics as well.

I would not like to use a macro, as it seems to crash my document every time I use the one in the forum link listed above.

I would just like to implement a way so that for future captions, the caption title and number will be bold and the caption text italic AUTOMATICALLY

P.S: To reiterate, I would like my caption to look like the following: Table 1: This is a caption text

You can do this with direct formatting. You could do it with a macro, but I would not except on the final document.

How would I go about that?
Would you be able to provide a step by step process, possibly with pictures on how to do that?

Direct formatting.

Select the text that you want to be different and click the Bold button on the Home tab or right-click and use the mini toolbar.


Note that the Cross-Reference and Table of Figures use the Caption style and direct formatting may change the resulting text in a Table of Figures.
