Word documents protected
Good Evening, I am by no means a Word expert and have run into a problem. When I open a Word document I get the message that the document is "locked for editing by another user". I know that I am the only one trying to access the file. Also if I check the info option I am told that the document is protected. So, my questions are 1. How to I prevent this protection from being applied to new documents? 2. How can I retroactively unprotect the documents I have already created? I should mention that all the documents in question are the result of using an existing file so perhaps the issue was with that file. Thanks in advance for your help. This message suggests an orphaned lock file http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm
If you are using documents as the basis for new documents, save the base documents as templates and create new documents from them.

Thanks to you all for your help. If I'm not careful I could become proficient in word!
