Default Editing Text boxes

I am on Windows 8 with Office 13 and am trying to edit a textbox on a file I created years ago. Nothing I do and I read the whole string of suggestions works. I cannot select text box so I can't change the layout options. The only thing that has saved me is I still have one computer back on Office 10 and that I can use to open it, but it is crazy having to bounce back and forth between computers just to be able to edit a text box. This is a document that I have to edit nearly every year so I need a better fix than going to a computer with an older version of Word. This is obviously an issue with this version of Office as I have seen many reports but very little successes by anyone. Has Microsoft issued any updates to fix this issue with Word (Office) 13.

Without actually seeing the problem document, it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

The text rendering "engine" in Word was changed with Word 2013. That may be the source of the problem. As Paul said, it is difficult for anyone here to tell you what is going on without seeing the problem directly. Words are inadequate.
