Default Copy text with tab at start of line and paste to Notepad

Either I'm totally stupid or Word is!

If I copy text that has any line start with a tab, that tab is not in the text that goes to the windows clipboard.

What do I have to do to stop Word removing tabs from the text I copy?

I'm unable to replicate that behaviour... Did you include the tab in the copied content?

I pressed Ctrl+a followed by Ctrl+c
There was no tab!
On further investigation, pressing the tab key produces what MS calls an indent. It does not insert the tab character. When I click on the funny little graphic with the lightning flash, I am offered the option to "Change back to tab". That fixes the problem!

So there was no tab character in the copied content!

FWIW, if you want to insert a tab at the beginning of a paragraph, press Ctrl-Tab.

I don't really use Word. I was asked to write a Spartan script to remove tabs from the beginning of lines. I got it working in Notepad and Open Office but when I tested it in Word, nothing happened!

That, of course, was because there was no tab - the paragraph had a first-line indent.
