Stop styles from being copy pasted along with text
Dear Word Forum Users
I have a question I can't seem to find a solution to anywhere, not sure if it is possible and actually quite easy or if it requires more work. I'm setting up a template for other people in my company to use. Now when someone copy-pastes some text from another document into it, the original Style is created in the Styles collection, which I want to avoid. Is there a possibility to block new Styles from being created after having copy pasted something from another document? Something that is within the document setting, not the Word setting of each user? Thank you and all the best! |

If you copy and paste formatted text, the format follows the content pasted including the styles that are applied. If you don't want the styles paste as plain text.

I had hoped that someone else would point this out because I've not used the feature, but I know that you can, in your template, restrict editing to a given set of styles.
00 deleteme 3.png The control for this is found on either the Developer Tab or Review Tab. To protect against importing a style definition for a style that is allowed, the style must be actually already used in your template. As Graham pointed out, the best solution is for your users to paste as plain text. You would want to protect the document for use of designated styles only, using a password that you write down. |

gmayor, thanks for the reply! Yes, I can just enter it in plain text, my worry is just that other colleagues might not do the same.
Charles Kenyon, yeah that is also a possibility, thanks! But once I apply the protection, I can't even have some liberty of putting things into Italics or Bold... which of course would be good, but people might complain about that. Thank you both! |

Anything more than that is going to require macros (which might not run on someone else's computer) which would be highly intrusive, changing their settings. They would likely be even less likely to appreciate that.
You could include the strong and emphasis styles in your list. |
