Default TOC and document contains figures and table captions and everything that is not "normal" text styled

Ηι,

I use word 2016 in mac os and windows, i have this problem:
My table of contents and in the navigation panel of word (document map) show everything except the "normal" styled text, figure and table caption and many other things. Also when i update my table of content, appear the figure and table captions inside of it.

The problem is that this hapens only in the office of my mac, not in the windows. After i search the internet i found that i have to disable the "outline level", but i can not find it in the office of mac.

Any help???

Thank you in adcance

I no longer have a Mac.

That said, try modifying the Styles that cause the problem. Format the paragraph settings.

Default Table of Contents problem

I have a similar problem - running Mac OS X Sierra, Word 2016 from Office 365 latest update (15.35).

Got a large document (50,000 words) with a standard table of contents set up to create based on Heading 1 and 2 from styles pane. This all worked fine but now is recognising half the 'normal' styled text in the document as table of contents material - it makes the Document Map completely useless and if I update the toc does the same there.

Any suggestions warmly welcome!

Click in one of the bogus entries in the body of the document. What is the style? It may look like Normal in its formatting but be in H1 or H2.

In Word for Windows, the Document Map (not the Navigation Pane) was a flawed feature that caused problems when used for editing rather than navigation. I do not know whether the Mac version has the flawed feature or not.

OK so I reformatted the whole doc (which took ages!) - all the normal text that had become part of the Document Map was still normal text but in the Outline view had been changed from Body Text to Level 1. Having done this - the map worked great and TOC was correct... until I saved, closed and reopened - at which point it's changed all the same parts to Level 1 again... Geez - I'm thinking this must be a bug as I don't seem to be doing anything to cause it Thanks for replying btw

If this is all or many of your documents, take a look at the normal style in your normal.dotm template. Also look at the document-level option to update styles from the template.

This definitely sounds, to me, like it is connected to the document map problems.
