Unhappy Exact Line Height not working

I set a one line paragraph to an exact height. But when I print, the line is shifted down about 10 points. This is bad because I don't want the line to move. It's a big problem because I am printing on pleading paper and the lines do not line up. This has never been a problem with any of the Word versions since Word XP. It just started, and it happens on multiple computers all running either Windows 10 or 8.1. To get around this, I created a table with an exact width with the one-line text in the table. To my shock, the text in the table shifted down which caused all the text on the entire page below the table to shift. This is super weird because if a table is set to an exact height, nothing in the table should cause text to shift below the table when printing. Everything looks fine on screen and in Print Preview mode.

I am convinced that this is a bug. By the way, this behavior occurs even though I have the boxed checked "Don't center exact line heights." And their is zero spacing both before and after the paragraph. The font position is set to normal, it's not raised or lowered.

I noticed that this only happens with Adobe's Linotext Std font and no others. It's not a corrupted font because I get the same behavior on other computers with different OS's. And it has worked for years.

You seem to have isolated the problem to a specific font. Unfortunately, Word has poor support for some of Adobe's OpenType fonts.

Does it work if you create a PDF of the doucment and then print the PDF?

One more observation... I guess you need the "Don't center 'exact line height' lines" compatibility option because you are using one of the pleading templates. Note, however, that that option will cause the lines to move when a text line contains text in varying font sizes, even though you have specified "Exactly" for line spacing.

This font has worked for the last 17 years in all versions of word since Word XP including Word 2016 as of a couple of months ago.

It also doesn't work if I print to PDF. I used three different PDF drivers, same result. At first, I thought it was the PDF driver, until I printed directly from Word.

Here, I have the exact line height to 22.5 points. Even if when the text was at 1 pt, the line still shifted. I tried it with a font size of 120 points and the line shifted by the same measurement as the 1 point font size.

This behavior even happens if I create a table with an exact row width. I thought for sure that this would prevent the problem. But it wouldn't.

So is it likely that with the most recent revision to Word that there is now a bug with the Linotext font?

Try saving as a PDF from within Word, via File | Save As, and see if that makes a difference. It's a bit of a long shot, though, but it is worth trying, at least if the display is correct in Word.

As I wrote, the underlying problem may be how Office and/or Windows interpret certain fonts.

No luck with the Save As feature. If I send you the file, can you check if you get the same result?
