Default Table of contents with section breaks (text in table in header)

Hello,

I have a word 2007 document that I would like to make an automatic table of contents for. See attached.

Details:

Document includes 30 + pages each with a different header. I used section breaks and inserted text from file to combine the documents together into one large document.

The headers include tables with text. I would like to use the text from these tables in the header for the automatic table of contents.

Problem:
I cannot get the table of contents to work. I feel using text from a table to make a table of contents is causing issues. Also I tried other text in the pages and it seems the section breaks are causing issues also. Is there any way around these issues?

Thank you.

If you mean that you want text paragraphs in the page header to be included in the table of contents, that is not possible. Headings must be in the main body of the document.

Even if you have a different header displayed on each page, by definition a [running] head is not on any page. As far as Word is concerned, a header is for multiple pages. Thus an Automatic TOC will not pick it up.

Move your tables from the header area into the body. Since they do not need to be running heads, there is no reason for them not to be in the body of the document.
