Many thanks to you both for those suggestions. The borderless table idea sounds the most straightforward, and works well. I had also tried using MS Publisher, and once I found the picture insert procedure that is even simpler, and their positions can be grabbed and moved at will. The main problem with that was I would prefer to save in docx format, which does not seem to be an option. Anyway, problem solved, and many thanks.
