how to retain different views in outline mode
I am often working on large documents in outline mode, using the buildin headers.
Often I have to move sections using their headers. In that case I open 2 windows on the same document, say W1 and W2. I want these windows to keep their own view on the document. For instance, when I open a heading in W1 I want (expect) it to stay closed in W2. However, as it is now, W2 is synchronized with W1 and opens the heading also. The only operation which is not synchronized is scrolling. How can I retain W1 and W2 their different views on the same document in outline mode? You cannot, AFAIK.
Have you tried using, instead, the Navigation Pane together with Outline view? The Navigation Pane will only show items which have outline levels and you can decide how many levels to show. |

Thank you. I never used the Navigation Pane so I experimented a few minutes.
Yes, I think it can help, but I will have to adjust my working habits. Also, the Navigation Pane uses valuable space at the left side of my monitors, especially when I use long headers. Nevertheless, it is a step forward. Again: thanks. |

Use one screen of outline view (rather than two) and the Navigation pane. It should take less space than your current option of having two windows of the document open in Outline view. Essentially, the Navigation pane substitutes for W1.
You can use the Navigation pane to move sections. |

Yes, that seems to be a good practice. Thanks for sharing this idea.
