Pagination shifts in doc
I have a Word doc where 2 lines of text is shifting from the top of one page to the bottom of the previous page when opened on different computers. Same version of Word on all PCS - Word 2016. The doc is not in compatibility mode.
Pagination is also shifting when a PDF is created. Any ideas? |

The behaviour is normal and is a result of Word optimising the layout for the active printer driver. Evidently, the PCs in question are using different printer drivers (e.g. because their using different makes/models of printer).
How are you creating the PDF?

For more on this, see What happens when I send my document to someone else? Will Word mess up my formatting?
You can have different printer drivers even when using the same printer on the same network! Creation of a PDF involves a similar situation. Once the pdf is created, though, it should look the same on all computers unless there are font problems. |

The odd thing about this is that the pagination shifts in Word between PCs (which could be a print driver issue) BUT ALSO when creating a PDF from the SAME PC.

The PDF acts as a different print driver, or can.

I work in a business where we MUST have the PDF match exactly to the Word doc. The default print driver is set to "Adobe PDF". Do you have any tips to avoid this situation in the future?

Use that print driver to create your pdf, not Microsoft's Save As, or even Adobe's Save As PDF. It should give you the results you seek. To create a pdf, print to that "printer."

If the PDF must match a physically printed copy, changing to a PDF printer driver to produce the PDF is precisely the wrong thing to do. One should use SaveAs to create the PDF with the driver used to print the hard copy active.

If the pdf must match the displayed version, follow my directions.
If the pdf must match a printed copy, follow Paul's. |
