Default Table of Contents: Bookmark Not Defined

Someone sent me a Word Table Of Contents (TOC) via email. No document body, just the TOC. When I open the attachment (the TOC), I am in "protected" view and the page numbers are there. However, in order to print the TOC - which I need to do - I appear to have to enter "Enable Editing" mode. When I do this, the page numbers disappear and are replaced with "Error! Bookmark Not Defined".

How can I resolve this, if possible? I need to have a printout with the actual page numbers. And for reasons I won't bore you with, I definitely cannot acquire the full document.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Well, my initial thought is to have whomever sent you the TOC by itself to have them send the TOC as a .pdf file. Otherwise, if it is a protected document/file and it takes you to the edit mode, you will always get the error notification because it would be looking for the TOC headings...and, if you do not have the body text you cannot get the headings and the subsequent page numbers. (I may not have explained it correctly but, the end result would be the same).

Thanks, but there are reasons why this person will not be able to send me a PDF version.

OK, then have them lock or unlink the TOC field before they send it. That way it will not update when you try to print.

If they can't do that, take a screenshot of the TOC before you get set to edit and print that.

For reasons I will not bore you with, I cannot get in contact with the sender in the necessary time frame. So I will try the screen shot suggestion, thanks.

Open the document, then press Ctrl-A, Ctrl-Shift-F9. That will convert the TOC to text so it can print without updating and self-destructing.

Thanks a bunch! This worked (I actually had to find the Mac equivalent but that was easy). Despite what my profile says, I am a Mac user - need to change my profile.
