Default Using Columns with Multilevel Lists

Hi!

I have set up a document template that uses multilevel lists linked to styles. It seems to be working fine, however, if I try to use two Columns in the document, the second column is ignored (ie the text flows from the first column to new a page rather than to the second column of the same page). Column breaks work if inserted manually but this is not ideal.

I believe the problem is linked to the use of the multilevel list as it doesn't seem to occur if they are not used (although there may be a different issue).

Can anyone help? Thanks very much in advance.

Craig

In setting up your numbering, are you following all of the directions at How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly.

Hi,

Yes, this is the method I use to set up numbering, I'd just never used it with columns before. I think I may have found the solution by trial and error:

For each of my styles I selected modify>paragraph>Line and page breaks

Then disabled 'keep with next' and enabled 'keep lines together'. I'm not 100% convinced this is the true solution but it seems to working for now!

Thanks,
Craig

If you are using the built-in heading styles to create a multilevel list with little or no "intervening" text, then you should definitely clear the options you mentioned.
