Could anyone out there help me? How to open .doc format file without Microsoft Word?

Have you tried using WordPad? There are also plenty of other word-processing programs that can work with Word files (e.g. Open Office, LibreOffice).

If you only need to read/print, you could use the Word Reader as well.
