Pasted text is not formatted correctly in protected document
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with a form I've been putting together. It's going to be a template for letters. This template is supposed to be as unchangeable as possible, so that users don't diverge from the corporate design. Therefore I put form elements wherever possible and restricted editing to a minimum. For each form element, I also set the formatting the way I need it to be. So far so good. However, as soon as I activate protection, text pasted into a form element from anywhere else is no longer matched to the previous formatting in the form element. I am fairly certain, that this has to do with the protection, because when the whole document is editable, pasting is not a problem. I set the default pasting option to match my current formatting, but this does not help. I hope you guys can help me with a way around this. I am using a german version of office, so some terms may be different, I'm trying my best to translate correctly. I'm happy to elaborate on any details if necessary. Thanks for your help! |

It's not your fault but your question is not specific enough. Word's handling of forms and editing restrictions is a dog's breakfast of options.
You are using Word 2007? How are you restricting editing? From what are you copying? Look into AutoText and building blocks as source material. It gives more control. Automated Boilerplate Using Microsoft Word Pay attention to styles in both the source and the destination. |

Thanks for your answer. I found a way to make it work. I changed the restrictions so that only form entries are allowed (except for a specified sectioned paragraph of the document) and with that setting, the user cannot change the formatting of form entries but anything pasted into a form element is formatted the way it should be.
For anybody that finds this thread with the same problem: I am using Office 2007. The problem occured if I pasted anything from outside the document (e.g. from my browser) as well as with stuff from the same document that had different formatting. I had the restrictions set so that no changes were allowed, except for certain exceptions that I set inside the form elements. |

Be aware that: (1) setting restriction to "filling in forms" limits use of other Word features, and (2) you should not combine legacy formfields and content controls in the same document.
