I'm new here and don't have extensive technical experience with Word although I have used it for years.I have Office 10 and am using Windows 10. I have a long (170 page) document that is in three sections. I have numbered the pages on the third section successfully. Now, I would like to number the pages of the second section with small roman numerals. However, when I use Header and Footer Tools Design, Click Page number, click Format Page Number and put the necessary information in and click "OK", I get nothing.
Then, trying a different tact, I right click in the footer section (which is showing the lines for the footer), then click Numbering and then choose the appropriate selection from the library, I get the same number on all pages. What I want are consecutive numbers, not a true footer where everything is the same.
I hope all this makes sense, but I have struggled for several hours trying to get this right. Any help would be appreciated
