Opening document on first page with restricted editing

Hi,

I have restricted editing on all pages of a 5 page Word document (Word 2013). On each of these pages, there are fields which can be edited as comments by anyone.

Every time I close and re-open the document, it opens at the last page instead of the first.

I have experimented and found that when the restricted editing is turned off, the document can be opened to the first page. Is there any way to bypass/override the restricted editing and have it open on page 1 in all instances?

With editing restrictions applied, Word will open the document at the first editable area. The behaviour is by design and can't be changed. You could workaround it by making even a single space character on the first page editable.

I have editable fields on page one but it still opens at the end of the last page of the document.

Attached is a mock up document which opens at the bottom of page two, despite there being editable fields at the top of page one.

I don't know why my version is opening on the last page and can't see anything that is forcing it to open there.

Just confirming. When I tried opening it, it opened on the first page. When I tried typing (in a restricted area) it opened the Restricted Editing Pane with the button to go to the next area I could edit. It worked as I would expect it to work.

What happens if you start Word in safe mode?

Thank you for testing this Charles. When I attempt to open the document in Safe Mode, the document doesn't appear. Hmm, perhaps there's something wrong with my version of Word. I'll try to reinstall it and see what happens.

When you have Word open in Safe mode, use File > Open to open the file!
