Unhappy Figures references messed up

Hi all,

I am struggling with the figures references in Word.
I get the numbering restarted to 1 under the same sub-section. For example, under sub-section 1.5, i start numbering the figures 1.5-1, 1.5-2 etc until I get to figure number 5. Here, the crossreference restarts from 1 instead of 1.5-5. i get 1.5-1 for some reason. This happens throughout the document! Could someone pls help me out here? I have looked into the chapter styles and everything looks good. I have also tried to copy the figure and paste it right after number 1.5-4 - done this and updated the field, it works!!! Gets 1.5-5 as it was supposed to be but it's in the wrong place!

Cheers!

If numbering is correct but cross-references to numbers are not, try updating the cross-references, which you can do most easily by switching to Print Preview and then return to Print Layout view (click File | Print and then press ESC).

Hi again,

I see that the problem is linked to a table that I have in the document. If I copy the figures to a page before that table, everything gets properly numbered. On the other hand, if the figures come after that table, the numbering starts from 1 again.

Any idea on what might be wrong with this table?

If you have set up your captions to restart after a particular heading, look for a blank paragraph to which that heading style has been applied. Delete the paragraph or, at the very least, apply Normal style to it. Then update the cross-references with File | Print followed by ESC, as I mentioned earlier.

If you want further assistance, I believe you will have to upload your document as an attachment to this forum. To see options for adding attachments, click the Go Advanced button at the bottom of the window.
