Default columns in last table row don't line up

the columns in the last row of a table often don't lineup with rows above.

what causes this? and how can I keep it from happening?

I know how to repair it (cut row and paste it below table)
but if I don't know it's happened it causes a problem when selecting a column and pasting.

It's probably a result of either:
• tables being merged; or
• selecting only some rows when adjusting column widths.
In this case, the simplest solution might be to:
1. position the cursor in the first cell on the last row and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter, to split the table there.
2. position the cursor in the last cell on the last row of the 'previous' table and press the Tab key to create a new row.
3. copy each cell's data from the table containing the old 'last' row to the new last row.
4. delete the table containing the 'old' last row.
