Default Can't 'Save As' word doc

Firstly I apologise if is this is an old (previously discussed) topic - (i'm sure that it is), but I am new to the forum and cannot find an answer out there that helps me. The issue is if I open an existing document and edit it, then there is no problem saving it. However, if I open a new document and go - File - Save as the program goes unresponsive with no option but to crash the program and start again. The only 'fix' that I have found is to restart the computer and go straight to Word and try again, under this circumstance it seems to work, but obviouly this is not always convenient. This problem has happened before, and I found a solution (then) by editting the registry, but I can't remember what I did, and also can't find the info that I found (at the time). I don't know if it is related but I also have had problems in trying to add an attachment to a message in Outlook, I get a similar result (unresponsive, need to crash). I am using Office 2010 on Windows 10 pro. Any suggestions appreciated.
