Default Get the right language when inserting a date

I make a merge document (to use with CRM Dynamics) which contains a date when this document was made (and may not change when opening the nex day).

So I go to Word 2016 --> Insert tab --> Text group --> Quick parts menu and then click Field.

I choose the CreateDate and in the list "22 maart 2017" (Dutch for March 22 2017".

In the document in will appear as "22 maart 2017".

The fieldcode is CREATEDATE \@ "d MMMM yyyy".

When I save this document and use it to merge with other records in CRM, it will show as "22 March 2017"

How can I get this date to be published as Dutch?

The File --> Options --> Language is set to Dutch.

I use a Dutch version of Word 2016 and the menu etc is shown in Dutch, only this date after merging is set to English.

Anyone an idea what setting is wrong?

Kind regards,

Arie

Hi!

You must select Dutch for your text with the Review Tab / Language.

Bye!

In Word, language is a text attribute, just like bold or italics, so the language at the insertion point may be incorrect even if the default language is correct.

In the Language dialog box (Review | Language | Set Proofing Language), clear the "Detect language automatically" option; that way, you prevent Word from changing the language at the insertion point. The setting applies to all files that you open in Word.

For existing documents whose language formatting is already incorrect, you may have to other choice than to select all the text and manually (re-)apply Dutch via the Language dialog box. Click the OK option (not Set as Default).

Hi Stefan,

As you can see below, I have unchecked the "Detect language automatically" but still the date is in English format.

Any clues?

Kind regards,

Does the language format "behave" in new, blank documents?

If the problem is only with existing documents, (re-)apply Dutch as I describe in my previous post.

AFAIK, you need to change the Windows language (via the Control Panel), not just the proofing language in Word.

Hello,

Tnx both for answering!

I have made a new merge document with only the data inserted but still the same problem, in the original document is the date in Dutch but after merging it is in English.

I have checked my Windows Language but that's also in Dutch, see the image below:

Kind regards,

Arie

Some ideas displaying my ignorance:

  1. With the field code displayed, select the field and change the proofing language to Dutch.
  2. Is the fieldname CreateDate, itself, different in Dutch?
  3. Would a \CharFormat switch make any difference?
  4. What happens if you switch to a Date field? Any difference?

I know nothing about the effect of language on fields so am simply speculating. I am a typical American as far as language skills go.

One thing I found is that you have to update the field after you change the proofing language.

I checked and the proofing language for the field (not the document, the field) matters. Proofing language is not a system or document setting, it is applied to individual characters.

Once you have found the answer to your question, please post that answer and make a note that your question has been answered in each of the forums where you posted it.
