PLEASE HELP-wrong formatting????
After using word 2007 and saving a word file, it changed the formatting from the previous file (which i think it was .wps microsoft works word processor) and now its all messed up.....I think it saved it in some other wrong encoding standard......whenever I open this file now half of it is in some weird looking unreadable characters....like this with wha捬屨捦ㅳ尠晡‰汜牴档晜獣‰歜牥楮杮尰扤档慜㍦㔱㔰楜獮獲摩㌱ㄳ〶‷灜牡素筽⩜灜獮捥癬ㅬ灜畮牣屭 湰瑳牡ㅴ灜楮摮湥㝴〲灜桮湡屻湰硴慴ges! That is what seems to happen once the system breaks its laws from the inside. couldnt find online solutions...does anyone have any suggestions or solutions???? Please, its a very imp doc and would be greatly appreciated bruce |

Not knowing the file type is was saved as, I can only guess. My first guess would be to use Microsoft Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) to navigate to the mystery file. Use Explorer to open the mystery file. If you have a program associated to the mystery file type, Windows Explorer will choose that program automatically. If you don't have the right program, you will get a dialog box letting you search the internet for the right program. This may at least give you the file type and help you narrow down the solution.
Can you see the extension after your file name (the letters after the dot)? Knowing that will help you determine what opens the file you have created or if there is a problem with the file name. |

its perfectly fine before when it was in .wps and I opened it with wps (word processor) but then after opening it with word 2007 I think it reformatted the document to save it and reformatted it the wrong standard or something.....now in both .wps and .docx (word2007) it comes out with those funny characters when I open it with either program...? Nothing happens with explorer....

When you right click it in Windows Explorer and select "Open" nothing happens at all? It should at least give you an error message.
What is the exact file name of this file, including the extension? |

You can send it. Reply to this post by clicking "Go Advanced". In the options at the bottom of the page, you have the option to upload the file. This will attach your file to your post. I can get it from there.

I see, I was not understanding your problem correctly. It looks like Word has chosen a foreign language character set for a portion of your text. I'm not sure how to fix this or if it can be fixed. However, my first guess would be to play with the language settings.
I would open the document, and press CTRL+A to make sure all text is selected. I would then go to Review from the ribbon menu and click Set Language. Make sure all text is set to English. Try toggling the language detect feature. I would also try to make sure that it's not something simple like a font change in the middle of the paragraph. I wonder if the file is not damaged. Make a copy of the document before you try the steps mentioned in the Microsoft KB document: Click on this link to access it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918429/en-us Since you said that you are new to computers, you can try these steps mentioned in the KB article: Method 5: Force Word to try to repair a file Step 1: Repair document 1. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Open. 2. In the Open dialog box, click your Word 2007 document. 3. Click the arrow on the Open button, and then click Open and Repair. Step 2: Verify that repairing the document fixes the problem Verify that the strange behavior no longer occurs. If the strange behavior persists, restart Windows, and then go to method 6. |

Was the file originally a Word file or a Works file?
I can't get the .wps file to open, but right away I see a problem with the file name. The file extension is in there twice. Rename the file to only have the file extension once. If you are attempting to move content from a Works file type to a Word file type, you might try copying and pasting rather than using save as options. |
