Find and replace symbols help
I want to replace character code 25A1 from Unicode (hex) to Wingdings 2:48 from Symbol (decimal). When I enter these items in the appropriate "Find and Replace" places, the "Replace with" item is always an unknown symbol. I suspect this is a font issue. So how do I replace character code 25A1 from Unicode (hex) with Wingdings 2:48 from Symbol (decimal)? |

Try the following Find/Replace:
Type “Alt+9633” into the Find box. Type “Alt+9133” into the Replace With box. |

“Wingdings” and “Symbol” are 2 different fonts. “2:48” is not a code for any character. What kind of check box do you want? Could you please post a screen capture?

The blue-highlighted symbol is the one I want.

Unless I am mistaken, you need to use the following workaround:
1. In Word, bring up the “Symbol” dialog. 2. Locate, select, then paste the character that you want into the document window. 3. Close the “Symbol” dialog. 4. Select the pasted character in the document window (leave any paragraph mark out), and copy it to the Windows clipboard (Ctrl+C). 5. Type “Alt+9633” into the Find box. 6. Type “^c” (without the quote marks) into the Replace With box. Note that “^c” will paste the current clipboard contents. 7. Do your replacements. |

Typing "^c" in the Replace With box gives me ^c.

I expressed myself poorly.
The correct steps are as follows: 1. 5. Press Ctrl+H, and type “Alt+9633” into the Find box. 6. Type “^c” (without the quote marks) into the Replace With box. Leave ^c AS IS within the Replace With box. 7. Do your replacements. With ^c in the Replace With box, Word will automatically substitute any “Alt+9633” character it finds with the current clipboard contents, i.e. with the desired Wingdings 2 symbol. |

I'm following your instructions, which are clear, but something isn't working correctly.
I want to replace a small checkbox with a larger one. So when I copy and paste the larger one into the Replace With box, a different symbol appears--most often an envelope figure or a bold backward-like ampersand. These symbols do work with find and replace, but they're the wrong symbols. What could be wrong here? Thank you, Robert2, for sticking with me on this problem. I do appreciate your efforts. |

You didn’t pay enough attention to the instructions I gave you. Please reread them and follow them to the letter.
Type ^c into the Replace With box, and leave it AS IS. The Replace With box should contain ^c, and only ^c. |
