Only three icons at top right corner of Word
There used to be four icons at the top right corner of a Word document and now there are only three.
What happened to the fourth icon that enabled one to make a half size view? |

Is the icon missing or is part of the document window outside of the screen?
If the icon is missing, try repairing Office (assuming that the problem occurs only in Word). If the icon is outside the screen, try right-clicking the taskbar and choosing the Cascade option. Perhaps you could post a screen shot that illustrates the problem.

On my system (Word 2013 on Windows 10), I see the Ribbon display options and a question mark to access Word Help. Beyond that, it is the same as your screen shot.
If Word is the only program that acts strange, try repairing your Office installation from Control Panel. See https://support.office.com/en-us/art...ad=US&fromAR=1.

Stefan.
I followed your advice and repaired my 2016 Office program, but my view of a Word Document remains the same with only three icons showing. I still ask the same question: What happened to the fourth icon that used to be at the top right corner of a Word Document? Is it that Microsoft, on a whim, removed it from their program? What am I not understanding here? Is there any way the fourth icon can be restored because it was very useful to me? |

As Stefan noted above, the two icons that you are missing are the Ribbon display option and the question mark to access Word Help (which can also be achieved using the F1 key). In any case, I do not have Word 2016 so I don't know if you are missing anything. Here is a link that I googled trying to find a resolution: http://in5stepstutorials.com/ms-word...-2016-2013.php. Hopefully, it will shed some light on the subject.

It's the same set of icons in Word 2016.

The fourth icon that I referred to, it seems, does not exist anymore.
Looks like it has been replaced by the 'side by side' option in View. |

Which version of Word did you use when you last saw that icon? I'm asking because I have no idea which icon you are referring to.
In case you are looking for the context menu which lets you move and resize application and other windows, you can still display it by holding the Alt key as you press the SpaceBar.

Perhaps if I ask the question in a different way it might help you to understand.
I use Microsoft Office Home and Student 2016 All seems to be working fine, EXCEPT the Window Restore Down button. All screens in all programs I have opened so far have opened with the window maximized and will not allow me to re-size them. The Restore Down Button - in between the minimize and close buttons does nothing. |

F-I-N-A-L-L-Y!! I understand now...(I think...)
You are wanting the Restore Down/Maximize icon to work in your version (2016) like it worked in 2007 (and, maybe 2010) where the Restore Down reduces the size of that particular file to roughly half-screen then when clicked on again returns the file to full-screen. Well, FWIW, that icon does not work like that in 2013 either (at least, not in my version). However, that particular option should not hinder your work as there are other options (as you indicated above) in the VIEW tab. |

So, if the Restore Down icon doesn't work, why is it there?
Microsoft should be able to answer that question. |

Perhaps Microsoft is able to answer that question, but you are not talking with Microsoft. Here you are talking to your fellow users. AFAIK no one from Microsoft posts here.
