Default Word doesn't scroll to bottom of page

Hi this is Office 2007. I have a page half full. I am at the bottom of the text. Scrolling I should be able to scroll to the end of the page not create lots of blank line (notepad) to force it to scroll. What has gone wrong? is there some setting that has changed?

What are you doing to attempt to scroll?

Are you trying to type at the bottom of the page with nothing between?

You may find your answer here: Basic Concepts of Microsoft Word - from Shauna Kelly

No what has happend is I don't have an end of page. If you open up a new word document you can scroll the right hand bar down to the bottom of the blank page.

The document are of word is white there are now sides tops or bottoms of an A4 page.

Is my blank document not A4 size? it is infinity width and infinity long. I can't see any sides.

Word has screwed up.

Bill Gates screw up. My word 2007 defaults to Web Layout. That is why there are no page borders. Seems that this is the way I have to use it now. So crap.

Open your normal template. How to Open the Normal Template
Change to Print View.
Type any letter and then use Backspace to erase that letter.
Save and close the normal template.
Make sure any other document is in Print View before you close Word.
That should help.

I understand this. The dirty flag as MS call it.

Save and close the normal template.
This I don't understand. Save as -> a dotx file
but it wants to save it as doc2.docx not as the word system template.

Ah you said open the normal template. What does this mean.
Start Menu > All programs > Microsoft Office [folder] > Microsoft Office Word 2007 : Is this the Normal template?

I do have this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033

There are templates in there but nothing called normal.dotx

What I need to do is edit the Microsoft Word normal template don't I?

I can create and edit templates normally. This used to work fine for years. Looks like Word has changed it's template.

The template you need to open is normal.dotm (not .dotx).

You use "Save" to save it. If Word wants you to assign a name to your template, you have created a new document, not opened the template.

You cannot take another template or a document and save it as the Normal Template and still have a fully functioning version of Word. Only Word can create a fully functional normal template.

Open Word. Done
Open the vba Editor by Pressing Alt+F11 Done
Open the Immediate window Done
Type the following application.NormalTemplate.OpenAsDocument Done
Hit Enter Done
Close the vba Editor. [I assume just hit the [x] top right Done

Didn't make any difference.

File > Close until you have no open documents.
Then follow the procedure vba editor procedure.
What do you see?

You should now have the normal template being used by Word open on your computer.

Tried it again and it appears to work. I have had to work of a made up template. The margins are now 1cm. Don't know how as there doesn't seem to be a variable for this. Personally I think the 2cm is far to big especially as this dates back to dot matrix printers that couldn't print to the edges.

Margins are to give people an easier document to read and use. Most documents I produce have margins between 2.5 cm and 4 cm.
  1. When lines of text get too long, they become harder to read. In some documents, I use columns to alleviate this.
  2. Margins are often used to annotate text by hand. 1 cm does not work for this, at least, not for me.

No things are going bad to worse. I used to have a word count option on the bottom of word. This has no GONE.

Terrific.
