Word changing my body text to heading text when I apply paragraph numbering
I have multi-level headings in a doc. I also have plain body text. To format my doc, I apply an H1 heading style to a heading paragraph, then I apply the Body style to the subsequent paragraphs. Then, I select those paragraphs and apply list numbers by clicking the Numbering button on the Home ribbon. No problem creating a list this way numerous times.
Suddenly, using the exact same styles and procedure, when I applied numbering to my body paragraphs, Word started changing them from Body paragraphs to H1 headings including applying the H1 (muti-level) numbering style to the paragraphs. If, instead of just clicking the Numbering button on the home ribbon, I open the Numbering drop-down and select the numbering format from Recently Used Number Formats, the numbering style is applied with no problem. Why is Word trying to format my body text as a heading, just because I click the Numbering button? |

If you are using STYLES for paragraph headings and body text, why not use STYLES for your numbering as well (i.e., List Number 1-5 etc.)? If I was to hazard a guess, I would say that may be the problem.
