Function of Ctrl+Space
Hello
What is the function of Ctrl+Space by default? how can remove it's function and define another one. in fact I want to define a shortcut key (as you see in photo) in return it. Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 09-02-2015 at 05:11 AM. Reason: Mark as solved |

Your illustration appears to be from Word 2013 rather than 2007?
Ctrl+Space by default is assigned to the useful remove formatting command, ResetChar. No-Width Optional Break does not have an assigned keyboard shortcut. Ctrl+Alt+Space is unassigned by default and could be used.

Hi
I removed ResetChar shortcut (Ctrl+Space) and set the Ctrl+Space for 'No-Width-Optional Break'. But when I use it, what happens is to change font to 'Calibri' and then to 'Courier New'. What is the problem? Why The Ctrl+Space functions wrongly? |

First, Ctrl+Spacebar is an extremely valuable keyboard shortcut. I would strongly recommend that you do not change it.
Second, I just tried assigning the command to Ctrl+Alt+Spacebar and no formatting changed when I used it. Would you care to attach a document that demonstrates the change? How to attach a screenshot or file in this forum. |

Charles
The problem just occurs while Ctrl+Space is assigned for 'No-Width Optional Break' and other keys for this function do well. I uploaded the document and it's photo. |

Ask yourself: how is Word supposed to know which font to apply, when the Style definition says to use 'Calibri', the paragraph format says to use 'Courier New' and the selection actually uses 'B Mitra'? You really should take the time to learn how Styles work and to use them properly.

Thank you very much. But I need more explanation. Would you describe the steps which I have to do to fix it up? Meanwhile I downloaded the attached document and Ctrl+Space functions right. Did you fix it up? |

Solving this problem is very important for me and I am not very incompetent in Word. But this has made me confused. Thank you in advance. |

The 'fix' as I said, is to use properly-configured Styles instead of overriding existing Style definitions with disparate formatting. See:
https://support.office.com/en-us/art...7-1eb120dec563 http://www.addbalance.com/usersguide/styles.htm http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styl...sonstyles.html http://shaunakelly.com/word/styles/stylesms.html I have not attempted to 'fix' your document as I don't really know what the Style requirements might be.

What you have referenced has so many pages to read. Is it possible for you to explain how to solve this special problem briefly?
Have a look at my second document attached. I created a new Style (Test). but the problem is seen again. |

You really do need to take the time to study the material in the links I posted. It would be no good having someone else guessing what your Style needs are.

I agree that you need to learn to use Styles. Within a fairly short period of time you will more than recover the time you spend learning them.

Except your second reference I had a look at all pages you posted, but my problem was not solved yet. Would you tell me which section of your long reference (second page) is related to my problem to read it? A little guidance please. |

Looking at the pages won't solve anything - you actually have to do what they suggest. The first link even tells you how you could fix your immediate problem...
