Some Questions of Making Table of Contents
Hello 1- I have made a Table of Contents and want not to be shown some page numbers in it and just the label of some Contents be shown withowt page number of it. Is it possible and how? 2- There is a label in the document like A) Section 1. Now I want to make Table of Contents of ‘Section 1’ without A). I assigned Section 1 to (e.g) heading1, not A) Section 1 to it, but after making Table of Contents, ‘A) Section 1’ is shown, not ‘Section 1’. How can I have to do to prevail this? Have a look at photo attached which is the Table of Contents. I want Red Characters not to be shown in it. |

Heading 1 is a paragraph style so it will pick up the A) unless you use a Style Separator to allow two Word paragraphs in a single printed paragraph.
You could use a tab setting outside your page edge (and no dot leader) in your TOC styles to push the page numbers off the page. I know how to do this in left-to-right text, but not in right-to-left. I assume it can be done, though. Here is a very good resource: TOC Tips and Tricks |

1- Heading1 was a sample. What I really did was selecting 'Linked' as Style Type. I examined it again with another Style, and it did work. Two points are better to mention: a) The magic shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+Enter) is necessary to separate two Styles from each other. b) The Style 'Character' does not work to make a Content. 2- If ‘Tab Stop Position’ (in Style formatting) becomes great, then what happens is that the label (in the table) goes to right and number of page goes to left (as photo shows). I want label to remain in center. Please tell me how do you do it in left-to-right text, then it makes me able to adjust it for right-to-left texts. Besides, if the Tab Stop Position is enough great, then the number goes to next line and is not disappeared. 3- How can differ label's and it's page number's format in Table of Contents? For example in above sample I want to set font=10 for the label (=Section1) and font=8 for it's page number in the Table. I could not find how to separate formats of each other. Why Do I ask this question? Because I want to make the numbers Non-English and bold too. But both Numbers and Labels are changed after changing TOC format. (This question is occurs when an Index is created.) Last edited by mohsen.amiri; 01-18-2017 at 03:29 AM. |

I did what you suggested. As I mentioned before, the numbers go to the next line and they are not disappeared. I want them not to be shown.
And about last question would you guide me? is it possible to make Label format different with Label's number format in the Table of Contents? |

Last question...
I am assuming that by label you do not mean a sticky piece of paper that goes on a package or envelope. I know of no way to have the numbering be different from the body of the document when gathered into an automatic table of contents |

I may be misunderstanding the question, but might the Show page numbers option help?

What you suggested removes numbers of ALL TOCs (Headind1,2,3's page numbers in the Table of Contents in your photo). I want to remove numbers of A particular TOC (e.g. Heading2's page number in your photo). I hope to explain obviously enough. What do you think about the question now? Charles & eNGINE
Do you have an idea about disappearing the page number of a particular TOC? |

I am sorry. You are expecting too much of Word. It cannot do what you want automatically.

One of my two daily tools can … but it would be impolite to say which one, and impractical to suggest you change programme just for that one detail. It's an unusual request.

What about changing page Numbers in index? Can separate index entry's format from it's page number format in Index?
