Can I make Word remember the window size and position for each document?
Is there any way to make Word remember the size, position, and view settings for each document so that when I open it, it looks exactly like it did when I closed it?
I usually view Portrait documents in a narrower window than Landscape documents. I view some docs in Page/Print mode, some in Draft mode, and some in Outline mode. I view some docs with the document map on and some with it off. Sometimes, I have paragraph marks turned on and sometimes off. And occasionally, I arrange two documents side by side and carefully set the window size so that I can compare them. But if I close them, all that is lost. It would be great to be able to open a document and have it look exactly like it did when I last closed it. Is there any way to make Word do that? |

Word remembers the window settings based on last time you used Word rather than last time you used that document. It would be possible to write a macro to store the window settings before closing a document and then reinstating those settings when opening the document.
Some view settings are stored with each document. For instance, documents do remember the last used zoom and some view settings for each document. However if you wanted ALL the view settings then those would also need to be captured in the macros that would be run to store and then reinstate your preferred settings.

A New Add-In Solution
Greetings all.
I experienced similar frustration with window sizes, locations, and viewing parameters in Word. I work with multiple documents open concurrently and on multiple displays. This problem is especially frustrating in such environments. Consequently, I just finished a lightweight add-in that nicely takes care of it! Word only restores the application's last view parameters. The Deja View add-in retains the last view parameters per document. It is open source and free! Deja View (Microsoft Word Add-in) [Moderator's note: Commercial Add-In] Let me know if you like it. Best regards, Manny Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 02-20-2023 at 07:23 PM. You can install an add-in created by MVP Jay Freedman. Go to his web site The Macro Zone and locate the SaveViewLocMulti_2007-2010.zip download. (There is a corresponding version for newer versions of Word.)
