Default "Printed By" in Word Document

Hi! everyone,
I just found this amazing forum!. I'm pulling my hair trying to find how to display "printed by" in a word document. I was able to insert day and time, but not idea how to insert "Printed by" variable. I found how to insert "document owner" also but not who is printing the document. I will appreciate some help on how to achieve this.

Thank you!!! Javier

You could probably use the UserName field for that. See under Insert|Quick Parts|Field.

Hi! macropod,
Thank you for your help. I actually tested with UserName already without success. I sent the document to a coworker but it still displayed my name when he printed it. I hope this can be set to office level and not Printer or server side. Any other ideas will be highly appreciated. Thank you, Javier

That may be because the coworker doesn't have Word configured to update fields before printing.

Hi! macropod,
Thanks again. After checking "update fields before printing" it is working great, now another challenge is how to prevent users form changing those settings. The settings in options can be changed without password requirements. To provide a little background about my questions: This is to be use on procedures (SOPs) and forms, we want to have full control of who is printing the forms in order to establish a fully functional document control system. Thanks! again, Javier

Unless you're a system administrator using a netorked environment that allows you to disable users' access to those settings (I'm not sure that's possible anyway for those particular settings), you can't really prevent users from changing those settings - they are application-wide, not document-specific.

As a workaround, you could add a Document_Open macro to the template the documents are based on to re-set the setting to 'on' each time one of those documents is opened, and/or an event-driven DocumentBeforePrint macro to do likewise, but users could circumvent those too - whether by accident or intent.
