Putting path and file name into all Word documents
Default Putting path and file name into all Word documents

I use Word in Outlook 2016 in Windows 10 desktop.

I would like to have the path and filename added automatically into the footer of all documents that I create, without having to do it manually for each new document.

Can somebody tell me how to set this up, please?

Thank you.

You can add the FILENAME field to your template.

Note that if you are using the default template (Normal.dotm), modifying the header is not recommended. Instead, either create a custom template which you then use instead of Normal.

If you want to add the path to existing documents, you'll need a macro.

The end of my previous post was supposed to be like this: "Either create a custom template which includes the FILENAME field or make use of a macro that adds the field."

As far as macro creating is concerned, you can create a macro that adds the FILENAME field to the main header in all documents that you open in Word. However, that approach is far from always appropriate.
