Default Search for Autonumbered Headings

I have documents that are up to 600 pages long and have headings that are up to 7 digits (e.g. 3.5.3.1.2.1.2 Heading Name). I would like to be able to search the document using the number on the heading. "Find" does not find it. Is there a way to do it?

CK you are correct...

Edit by CK: I assume that you mean headings rather than headers. If I am mistaken, please edit this post and remove my remarks.
What is the difference between headings and headers?

Pending an authoritative answer, I'd sidestep the search question and generate a table of contents …

We do have a TOC. The problem is that the heading numbers are used throughout the document and in tables that associate related information. It simply be able to search on the heading numbers.

Insert Cross-Reference?
You can cross-reference to a heading.

I know that cross references can be used but that does not solve the problem. It is interesting that the cross reference heading numbers will be found using a FIND but the original automated heading number will not.

I am trying to use FIND to locate ALL occurrences within my document of the outline numbers that are generated automatically by Word on the headings in my document.

See my first post.

Header or heading? See link given previously. It matters.

Headings. Sorry for the confusion. Headings - Often used with automated outline numbers to identify that one or more paragraphs belong together to make a point. In the example below there are two headings. I would like to be able to use the Find menu item to to locate 3.2.4.1.5.6 in my document. Word, at least by default, does not recognize the heading numbers because they are automated. Ironically, if you have cross-references in your document to the heading number, Word will find those.

EXAMPLE:

3.2.4.1.5.6 How To Make Word Do Something Consistently

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

3.2.4.1.5.7 What To Do When Nobody Gets What You're Talking About

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

I do not believe Word's Find feature can find these numbers because they are not really there. They are not "text." In the same vein, you cannot edit them manually.

You can use GoTo (Ctrl+G) to go to a particular heading.

Generating a Table of Contents from your headings will give you hyperlinks to them.

You could, of course, use Find to locate any headings of a given Style that contain a particular numbering format. For example:
Find = ^#.^#.^$.
would locate any string two digit one letter string, with each followed by a period. If that's found before the text in a heading, it's not an auto-numbered one.
