Default Sorting references by apperance in text

Hi everyone,

The problem:
I am making an scientific paper with lots (100+) references - articles. When i was writing the content of the paper, i used cross-references to cite the articles in text (by bookmark/paragraph number) - like this:

--------
ABSTRACT:
CONTENT:

text text text [1], [2] etc...

REFERENCES:
[1]. Jack Sparrow. "how to build a ship" 1700, vol.5. etc.
[2]. Mr Bean "how to be funny" vol 5 etc...
------

However my text looks more like this:

--------
ABSTRACT
CONTENT:

text text text [2]
text [14]
text [1]etc..

REFERENCES:
[1].Jack Sparrow. "how to build a ship" 1700, vol.5. etc.
.
[2]Mr Bean "how to be funny" vol 5 etc...
.
[14]..

------

They are NOT in numerical order. By apperance in text. reference 2, should be first on the list!
So far i used to fix this by sorting my references/articles in correct numerical order and than CTRL-A, F9, updated the whole document. This way, the numbers [X], in text/content were in numerical order.

HOWEVER, to manually sort the references at the end of the paper in correct order by apperance in text, can take me hours and hours.

Is there a way, in Word, with a few clicks, to automatically sort my references/articles at the end of my paper in numerical order BY APPERANCE IN TEXT.

So the if i cited first an article on spot [44] in reference list, it jumpes to spot [1].

I hope you understand what i mean. Feel free to ask for any additional information.

Jack.

Your description suggests you're using IEEE 2006 referencing. Had you created them using Word's referencing tools, the sequencing for both the citations and bibliography would have been automatic. Doing the job manually basically requires the use of a bookmarked SEQ field for each 'first' citation of a work in the body, then cross-references to that for each subsequent citation and the bibliography. That way, insertions/deletions of citations can auto re-number. If you then use a table for the bibliography, Word's table sorting tools can then be used to sort the references.
