Unhappy Creating a fillable ask document

I'm not sure if the terminology I am using for this is correct but i am attempting to create a template that upon opening asks for specific data sets I.E. names account numbers etc. and then imports them into the document at the necessary spots to fill the necessary data. From my google searches and attempts and finding a solution for this on youtube i keep getting confronted with same information that does not seem to describe the processes I want. I have been attempting to work this out through the Insert tab and using the tools found under the quick parts section. I have been using ask and fillin but when i try to save these to the documents it is not initiating upon opening up new copies of the file. Am I missing a crucial step if anyone knows the basic step by step please comment as id be grateful beyond that if I'm using the wrong terminology please notify me as well as I would like to become more familiar with the terminology.
