Unwanted accent entered when hitting apostrophe key
MSWord 2003: Suddenly, when I hit the apostrophe key, a french è is entered on the screen instead of the apostrophe. Same thing when I hit the question mark-slash key. I obviously changed some setting inadvertently.
Searched the threads for unwanted accents and keyboard accents, but could not locate anything about this minor but miserable problem. Can anyone assist in eliminating this Many thanks |

There are numerous possibilities. You may have:
• changed the keyboard layout to a language other than English. To reset the keyboard layout see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306560 • touched the Ctrl key while pressing the apostrophe key, which creates a shortcut to an accented letter. For example, Ctrl-',e generates é. • a USB keyboard, for which pressing Ctrl-Shift changes its configuration.

I think I hit control and appostrophe unintentionally, as you indicate. It fixed itself when I rebooted. John |
