Default Using old .dot in Word 2016 (Mac)

Hello everybody,

This is my first question here, so I hope someone can help me out.

For a writing job I use a .dot file from the company I'm working for. It creates a bar of buttons that I can use to speed up workflow and use the right markup for publishing. It works perfectly in Word 2011 (Mac), but I recently updated to Word 2016 (Mac). In Word 2016 the .dot file will load, but the buttons won't work anymore.
Is this a known issue? Is there any way to convert the .dot file? Or is there any other way to use the .dot in Word 2016?

Thanks in advance for your help.
