Default Using multilevel lists

I am trying to set up a document with the following numbered styles:

1. HEADING IN BOLD
1.1. Text
1.1.1 text, etc

I also need to have the following numbered paragraphs

1. Normal text
1.1. HEading in bold

1.1.1 heading in bold, etc

I have used multilevel lists and linked the first list above to the defined headings 1, 2, etc., and set up new styles for the second list and based them in the heading styles but when I try to restart numbering on "1 normal text" it reverts to "1. Heading in bold". I also need to make sure the lower level numbers follow on from previous number.

Any suggestions, or do these need to be set up using something more advanced like macros which I have no knowledge of.
