Default Won't load Normal.dotm

I need some help with Word 2010. I have used Word for a long time but in the last couple of days it has started loading a template that I cannot get rid of or alter. I have done the Google bit and seen the ways to modify Normal.dotm but it does not seem to "take" when it is saved and then start Words again. Where is the path for the startup template stored? The one that is loading is using a larger font and each the first letter of new line is capitalized! Weird. I read that if you delete Normal.dotm and then start Word it would create a new template. Nope! Not for me. It seems the program is pointing to some template other than Normal.
Thks,
Russ

Default

If you have not changed the default location enter or copy
%appdata%\Microsoft\Templates
to the address window of Windows File Explorer and you will be taken to the folder that contains the default template - which for Word 2010 is normal.dotm. Note that this folder is normally hidden. If you delete, or preferably rename, the normal template Word will create a new default one.

Check the option File > Options > Advanced > Save > Prompt before saving normal template, so when you leave Word any changes that might affect the normal template will be flagged by a warning to save (always save the first time after you rename or delete the normal template) so you can choose what to save and wqhat not to save.

The default font is the font associated with the Normal paragraph style, which can be changed from Word.

The first character of each new line that follows a paragraph break (pressing the enter key) is autocorrected to upper case, because in English new sentences always begin with a capital letter and a new paragraph will begin a sentence. You can turn this autocorrection off from File > Options > Proofing > Autocorrect Options.
