Why does delete function sometimes fails to work in track changes in MS Word?

I work with track changes a lot, and the problem is that when I write a word in a sentence, and then I push delete or backspace to delete some redundant words, the function doesn’t work. It just doesn’t delete the words until I put cursor in other position e.i. at the end of the word or else.
