I'm using word 2003 here.



I've got a document that has a 2 inch line at the bottom of the page, right after a heading for my transcription. I hit some key combination that i'm not aware of. I cannot delete this line. When I turn on the hidden characters with the Paragraph button there is dotted line box around it, with a grey paragraph marker after it and below it.

Can someone tell me what this is and how to get rid of it? I need to turn this in by 9am September 12th.

I've tried copying and pasting parts of the document around the line into another one, but that line always appears. There's something in the page I think that's causing it to be there, but I can't figure out what and don't have enough time.

I've included a screen shot here to help. Any suggestions out there?

That looks like a footnote separator. Does your document contain footnotes on that page?

I don't know -- I may have inadvertently hit a key combo, but no, these documents don't have footnotes in them. So how do I get rid of it

Without actually seeing the problem document (not just a screenshot), it can be difficult for anyone to diagnose the issue. Can you attach a document to a post with some representative data (delete anything sensitive)? You do this via the paperclip symbol on the 'Go Advanced' tab at the bottom of this screen.

I had a similar problem. Mine turned out to be an endnote (bit of a clue finding it at the end!!) that I must have inadvertently added.
Find (or maybe Replace to prevent the navigation pane appearing) -> Special and select Endnote (or whatever you think it might be) from the list
