Default Modify or create a style

The problem is I can hi-light a paragraph and bring up the Create new style from formatted. The indents are fixed 1.0 then multiples of 1.27

This text can not be manualy edited to any other value.

Indent: Left: 1.27 cm, Tab stops: 1 cm, Left, Based on: Normal

I do not understand your question. I am sorry.

Understanding Styles in Microsoft Word

You can restrict editing under the Developer Tab to only certain styles.

Tabs can be set for different increments.

Simple I want to modify a style to have an indent of 2.0 cm

HOW?

Can't edit the text box at the bottom

This text can not be manualy edited to any other value.
Indent: Left: 1.27 cm, Tab stops: 1 cm, Left, Based on: Normal

Clicking on the indent button gives fixed values of 1.27, 2.54, 3.31 etc

Simple question I want to indent to a value of my choosing.

I think we may have a language (or jargon) problem. I do not understand what it is you are trying to do. I do not understand what is happening instead. I'm sure that what you are asking has meaning to you, just not to me.

"Indent" = paragraph margin
"Tab setting" = places for insertion point to jump to when you press tab key

HOW?
Which style?
  1. Show the styles pane.
  2. Right click on the style you want to modify.
  3. Click on "modify" and a modify style dialog will open up.
  4. Click on the format button.
  5. Select "Paragraph."
  6. Set the Indent(s) that you want.
  7. Click on OK
  8. Apply the style.

Which Indent button? Where do you find this button?
