Default Shutting off Backstage not Working

I went to File/Options/Save, and checked the box to "don't show the Backstage

when opening or saving files".

I thought I would be able to get rid of the extra step of clicking on "This PC" to save, but it's still there, sho' nuf.

Is it possible to perform saves like in 2013? No one in my building ever saves to
SkyDrive or any other place - just the hard drive.

The "Don't show the Backstage..." option is a bit misleading, because it doesn't actually hide the Backstage (on the contrary, you will always see the Backstage when you click the File tab). After you have selected the option, what you can do is use keyboard shortcuts to access the Open and Save As dialog boxes directly. Use Ctrl+O for the Open dialog box and F12 for the Save As dialog box.

Thanks for your response. That appears to be the way I'll do things.

Out of curiosity (if you know), according to MS, what does "Don't show the Backstage" do, or contribute?

In Word 2013 and 2016, the default command assigned to Ctrl+O is FileOpenUsingBackstage. Selecting the "Don't show the Backstage..." option makes that command behave the same as the FileOpen command (which used to be the command assigned to Ctrl+O by default in older versions). FileOpen displays the classic Open dialog box (as you may already have guessed).

Possibly, "Don't show the Backstage..." does something else, too, but I don't know what might be.

The option really only affects the command assigned to Ctrl+O.
