Default Headers revert back to template header

I have a template that I regularly use to create documents.
I have text in the header as a place saver e.g. Report Name

When I name the report I rename it as 'recommendations' for example.
When I use the template and send to others, they sometimes complain that the header has reverted back to the original header.
When I open my version of the document it has the edited name.
Why is the header reverting back for some people and not others?
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Does the header contain a content control or a field of some sort?

No - It is just text in the header field. I have applied a Title style to it.

First question is: Why is this in the Header rather than the body?

You could replicate it in the continuation header using a StyleRef Field.

Might this be a Title Document Property field?

It is in the Header because it needs to appear on every page - isn't that what Headers are for?
I have had a look around for a StyleRef field and have no idea what this is?
I also not aware of what a Title Document Property field is?

Are you aware of any irregular behaviour with Headers? It seems that using a Header is a straight forward function, and that the problem is with the content in the Header not being retained correctly for some reason?

I would guess you did not look real hard. Click on the link: StyleRef Field

Can you send me a file or post it on OneDrive or DropBox and then post a link here? I will take a look.

Default Doc template attached

I did try with the StyleRef but I kept getting an error whenever i inserted a field in the Header.

I have attached the document that I use as my base document.

See attached which has a Document Property Content Control on Page 1. This control is also in your continuation header. This also will change the Title document property in your document summary.

You had two headers in your document, a first-page header which was not displayed as well as the continuation header. I do not know whether that was the cause of your problem. The Document Property Content Control's use in this fashion is described on Greg Maxey's Page Repeating Data (Populating Multiple Like Fields)

It is a long page because there are a number of ways to repeat things in a document. Search for "Document Property" to get to the discussion of this one.

The document property content control will not work for anyone using a version of Word predating Word 2007.
