Default Putting Figure captions under images and then creating a list of Figures

I am writing a report which contains images.

I would like to caption the images based on the chapter numbering. For example:

Image is in chapter 1.1. So I would like to caption the image as:
Figure 1.1-1

then the second image in that chapter:
Figure 1.1-2

However the "Insert Caption" tool only gives me the option of inserting "Figure 1", then "Figure 2", etc.

I will then need to make a list of Figures in the beginning of my report (thus I will need for the captions to be correctly linked in the list of Figures)

I also have tables and I need to do the same thing as with the Figures.

Assuming you have your Chapters numbered using heading styles set up according to How to create numbered headings or outline numbering in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly...

Use the Insert Caption as normal. Insert in the caption a Cross-Reference to the Chapter's heading - number only, followed by your dash. Insert a Caption - Complex Documents

Table of Figures, insert your Table of Figures (under the References Tab).

Thanks for the reply.

I tried to do that but I get the warning:

There’s no chapter number to include in the caption or page number. To apply chapter numbers, use the Multilevel List button on the Home tab and select a numbering scheme that’s linked to the Heading styles.

However I do have chapter numbers:

See the first sentence of my other reply. I made an assumption, apparently not warranted. Chapter Numbering requires the use of the built-in heading styles. These can be configured to look like yours current text.
Why use Microsoft Word’s built-in heading styles? by Shauna Kelly

You might be able to get a cross-reference to a bookmark, but I'm not sure how you could put the chapter number in a bookmark. It certainly would be a lot harder.
