I have set up specific page size and font type and size on a word document. I have then applied the restrict formatting option and selected None so that nothing in the layout of the document should change. This works fine if you are typing directly into the document but if you copy text from another document then the page size of that document overrides what I have set up originally.
Is there some option that I am missing so that when you copy from another document it still retains the format you have specified? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Last edited by Charles Kenyon; 08-22-2016 at 02:48 PM. Reason: add info to the title |

Paste as plain text?
You are likely copying a section break which will define page size. Sections / Headers and Footers in Microsoft Word. |

There will be a number of users who have written their input in seperate word documents so really need a way to be able to copy straight from word into this formatted document. I'm hoping someone knows a way round this!

That can only happen if whatever you're pasting contains Section breaks. The simple solution is to avoid doing so. Failing that, deleting the unwanted Section breaks post-paste should restore the page layout.

There isn't any section breaks. When I open a new blank document and type in a couple of words, copy them and then paste them into my restricted formatting document then the margins get changed to what the copies document is.

Without the inclusion of Section breaks, the page layout cannot change as a result of a copy/paste operation. Period.
What may change is the paragraph formatting, but that is an entirely different matter and can be affected by whether you're using Styles properly and/or what copy/paste settings you have Word configured for. These are user issues, not a Word problem, per se, and there is no Word setting you can use to prevent it.

I've just noticed that if put the cursor on first line of restricted document then I have this problem however if I press Enter to move cursor to next line then paste I don't have this problem
