This is partitialy solved without knowing the exact cause.
Actions taken: - Removed Office completely. - Cleared out the registry from Office leftovers. - Rebooted - Installed Office 2010 again instead of 2016. - Problem gone... - Still on the same video- and printerdrivers. This is the result in Word 2010: Question still remains: what caused the strange letter spacing? I'm a bit wary to install 2016 again for the time being. I'll look a bit further into this first. |

Next step:
- Removed Office 2010 completely - Cleared out the registry of Office leftovers - Rebooted - Installed Office 2016. Problem with the letter spacing reappaered. So the moment i install 2016 "and don't use the ClearType font setting", the letter spacing is all messed up. Back to square one... :-( |

Solution found!
I had the same issue with Verdana putting a space after m.
Previously I had changed my computer's performance settings to allow for better performance at the expense of appearance. When I change the setting back to "Adjust for best performance" my Verdana m's look much better with no space after. adjust for appearance.PNG |

I had the same issue. Setting Performance Option to: "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer" solves the issue. |

My performance managament was set to "let windows choos", when I changed it to best appearance the problem has been resolved. Fingers cross that's it now. I'm using Office 2010 on a PC running Windows 10. However, I have another PC with the same Office and OS versions and the problem doesn't appear on that PC (I haven't had a chance to check the performance settings on that one). |
