I have a document with the first 2 pages as a TOC. I want to start the numbering of the footers on page 3. I have made a section break, but I can't figure out how to exclude footers on the section 1, and start footers as page 1 on section 2.

Followed the steps in the link, but now how do I stop counting? I have 73 pages total and the footer is still saying page 1 of 73, even though it is starting counting on page three. I will also want it to stop counting before the last section, which is back matter.

You can't stop it counting before the end. The best you can do is put in the actual number once you are done editing.
An alternative is to put in a page number field in the last page of your body and link to that. If I were going to be heavily editing this, I would use that option. Here are more ideas: How to control the page numbering in a Word document |
